Actress Atiqa Odho acquitted in alcohol case after nine years

 A local court in Rawalpindi, the twin city of Pakistan's federal capital, has acquitted popular TV actress Atiqa Odho of an alcohol case nine after years .

Judge Yasir Chaudhry of the local court in Rawalpindi said that no evidence was found against the accused in this case regarding the export of liquor and therefore she was acquitted in this case due to lack of evidence.

The case against Karachi-based TV artist Atiqa Odho was registered in 2011 when she was traveling from Karachi to Islamabad when alcohol was allegedly found in her luggage at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport in the federal capital. Two bottles were recovered.

When the case made headlines, then-Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took cognizance of the matter and ordered the authorities to take legal action, which led to customs officials cracking down on the actress. 

Atiqa Odho was a key figure in former military president Pervez Musharraf's party, the All Pakistan Muslim League, when the case was filed against her.

Atiqa Odho has been a well-known name in the Pakistani drama industry since the 1990s. She gained popularity as a star in the popular PTV drama 'Sitara aur Mehrun nisa'. His popular dramas include Aks, Talash, Zikr Hai Kaal Kaal and many others. He has also acted in some films "Mujhey Chand Chaheay","Dobara Phir Se","Mammi" and "Jo dar gea woh mar gea"
